Welcome

Welcome to our website

We hope that as you explore the pages of this website you will receive a clear insight into the culture and ethos of our school.

The Lakes school is an 11-18 mixed comprehensive community school. We are situated in a corner of the UK which is unparalleled for its beauty, cultural opportunities and quality of life. The campus itself is set in close proximity to Lake Windermere and is surrounded by the Cumbrian fells.

At The Lakes we see ourselves as a school community, committed to excellence through our caring, learning environment.  We encourage our students to participate fully in all aspects of school life, knowing this will enrich their education and allow them to become successful students. We believe that these elements combined have made The Lakes School one of the most successful schools in the county.

  • Latest News from The Lakes School

The published GCSE results confirm the excellent performance of students at The Lakes School with a minimum of: 71% of students gaining 5 A*- C grades including English and Maths, 81% of students gaining 5 A* - C grades overall and 81% of grades being at A* - C Headteacher, Dr David Selby, says, “We are delighted by these outstanding, record breaking results. The jump of well over 10% in the 5 A* - C figure with English and Maths, means that our students have beaten and, in fact, smashed, the challenging targets we set for them and the school. Eight students achieved nine or more A* and A grades and every student has left Year 11 with qualifications. We have helped our whole range of students to do their best. We can also see this in the way that the proportion of each of our A*, A, B and C grades increased this year. Congratulations to each of our Year 11 students and thank you to all staff for their work. We mustn’t forget the, sometimes long suffering, families who also helped the students to do so well. We have a group of well over 100 of our young people who are now set up to move to their next stage with a flying start. Well done!”
