Library and Learning Resource Centre
LIBRARY & LEARNING RESOURCES CENTRE
Situated on the 1st floor at the front of the school, this is an attractive airy space incorporating a balcony used for the display of School artwork. Fitted with modern shelving and comfortable furniture, it is a stimulating environment for research and reading for pleasure.
The LRC provides a service which actively seeks to support students and staff in the process of learning, teaching and personal development through the provision of high quality relevant collections. Induction is offered to all Year 7 students. In-house training is provided for student volunteer assistants.
Over 7,000 items are on catalogue, including non-fiction linked to the curriculum and a good range of up-to-date fiction. IT facilities are located on the balcony.
Competitions, quizzes and book clubs are run throughout the school year. Spellbinding, the Cumbria secondary schools’ own Book Award is followed. This involves students reading, reviewing and voting for the winner and they have the opportunity to attend the Award Day held in the Summer Term.
